Foremost of all 108 Divya Desams (Koil), located between Kaveri and Kollidam rivers with 21 magnificent Gopurams.

According to the Sthala Puranam and ancient Sri Vaishnava Agamas, Divya Desam #1 (Srirangam (Thiruvarangam)) is revered as a sacred kshetram in Chola Nadu. The presiding deity, Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy (Periya Perumal), graces devotees in Kidandha (Reclining) posture facing South beneath the sacred Pranava Vimanam, accompanied by Goddess Ranganayaki Thayar. Holy dips or prostrations near the Chandra Pushkarani, Kaveri are believed to bestow peace, prosperity, and Moksha. Throughout the centuries, Chola, Pandya, Pallava, and Vijayanagara rulers contributed मंडपम्स (mandapams), gopurams, and stone inscriptions preserving the daily Pancharatra / Vaikhanasa Agama worship.
