Birthplace of Poigai Azhwar; the Lord rolled up His serpent bed and followed Thirumazhisai Azhwar out of Kanchipuram ("Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal").
According to the Sthala Puranam and ancient Sri Vaishnava Agamas, Divya Desam #51 (Thiruvekka (Yathothkari Perumal Koil)) is revered as a sacred kshetram in Thondai Nadu. The presiding deity, Lord Yathothkari Perumal (Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal), graces devotees in Kidandha (Right-to-Left Reclining) posture facing West beneath the sacred Vedasara Vimanam, accompanied by Goddess Komalavalli Nachiyar. Holy dips or prostrations near the Poigai Pushkarani are believed to bestow peace, prosperity, and Moksha. Throughout the centuries, Chola, Pandya, Pallava, and Vijayanagara rulers contributed मंडपम्स (mandapams), gopurams, and stone inscriptions preserving the daily Pancharatra / Vaikhanasa Agama worship.
